Yesterday was exhausting. Josh left at 4:30am (I think....) for the hospital and I worked on a couple of midwifery things that I am trying to do. Donna (the midwife I am working for) called at 6:30 or so and said she was giving me advance warning that a lady (who said I could catch her baby) was thinking she was in labor. So I call mom, bundle Aiden up, and gather some toys for him. Oh yeah, he needs breakfast. So I feed him. Then we rush out the door letting the dogs out as we pass by. I drive Aiden to my parent's house and hang out there for a while while I wait for Donna and our lady to decide if she wants someone to come and labor sit with her. At about 9:30 I head over to her house. I leave Aiden screaming in my Dad's arms. I call Dad back at about 12:30 and he says that Aiden has gone to sleep and is starting to relax a little more. So I try to not think about my little boy and I try to focus on the lady who is working to bring her little one into the world. Not much changes in her cervix for the first 4 hours but her contractions pick up and she begins to get more serious. All right... looks like we will have a baby today! I check her later and think she is perhaps a 4. She then goes through a good hour of contractions every 3-4 minutes and then every 1-2 minutes about 60-90 seconds long. To those who know, that is a good labor pattern! Donna arrives and other people get there. The contractions slow down. Donna checks her and she is still a 2 up near the baby's head. I am SO dissappointed! I hate getting ladies excited about progress and then having their hopes slammed. Meanwhile, Josh has gotten off work and taken a nap and gone to pick up my very tired little boy from my very tired parents' house. At about 8 at night we decide that the lady needs some sleep (she's been awake since 1 am) so we reccommend a hot bath and a wine cooler. We go home. I am waiting in anticipation for when she needs us next. It isn't that big of a deal but finding a place for Aiden to hang out is difficult. I really want to finish my midwifery certification but it is hard knowing that it will mean sacrafices and inconvience for quite a few people around me. A big huge THANKS to my parents who were so willing to adjust their schedule yesterday to help me in this goal.
